The 2018 Development Campaign of the Western Institute of Nursing (WIN) is in the process of raising $20,000 by July 2018. WIN’s development fund that has two major purposes:

  • Increase the size of the current joint research grants WIN sponsors
  • Offer new research grants. As the sources of federal funding have diminished, it is essential that the profession ensure access to private funding to support nurse researchers’ projects and the development of nursing knowledge.

A 2017 Communicating Nursing Research Conference Memory

Charlene (Charlie) A. Winters, PhD, RN and John DeLapp, MS, Winner of the Friends of WIN Award

Congratulations on WIN’s 60th Anniversary. I would like to be there to help you celebrate, but that is not possible.

I have many memories including Jo Eleanor Elliot and Jean Kearns as directors. At the first research conference Ada Sue Hinshaw presented her research and I was her critiquer. We were all excited to be a part of the first research conference. Hard to believe that it was fifty years ago. Research in WIN has certainly grown and prospered, much to the benefit of nursing.

You are fortunate to have Doris Kearns Goodwin to Keynote the conference. I always enjoy her when I see her contributions on some of the National TV programs.

My best to you and the WIN Membership for a successful conference. Greetings to all and especially anyone who may still remember me.

Gladys Sorensen, EdD, RN, FAAN

On behalf of the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), I am writing to congratulate you on the 60th Anniversary of the Western Institute of Nursing (WIN) and the 50th Anniversary of the Communicating Nursing Research Conference.

As you commemorate these important milestones, I would like to take time to acknowledge WIN’s many important contributions to the field of nursing research. Throughout its’ history members of WIN have worked together to advance nursing science, education, and practice to improve patient outcomes. I look forward to continue working together on these shared goals.
