August 2017

Hello WIN members and friends of WIN!

Fall is approaching and that means WIN abstract submissions will be rolling in to the WIN office! This is always an exciting time of year for us as we gear up for another exciting conference. The 2017 conference was tremendously exciting as we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the WIN conferences and the 60th Anniversary of the WIN organization. Next year, Spokane, Washington will play host as we begin the next 50 years of WIN’s Communicating Nursing Research Conferences. Do not miss the opportunity to join a stellar slate of keynote speakers and present your paper or poster at the 2018 conference. The abstract submission deadline is Monday, October 16, 2017. The Call for Abstracts is located at https://www.winursing.org/2018-conference/

Fall is also a time to reflect on the many contributions of our members. Please consider nominating a colleague for one of the annual awards WIN makes available to honor members for their outstanding contributions. While the deadline for most nominations is November 15, 2017, they do vary, so check the WIN website for details. The 2018 Annual Award Nominations forms are located here: https://www.winursing.org/award-nominations/

Lastly, I want to report on the activities of your Board of Governors. Board members meet in person during the annual conference, in the summer, in December, and by phone on several occasions during the year. Each meeting agenda is set around the organization’s strategic plan. In this way, we can see how we are achieving our goals and objectives. Our priorities for this past year centered on recruitment and retention of members, member benefits, marketing, and development. I am pleased to report that the Development Committee made great strides, meeting the goals for the 50 by 50 campaign. By working with a marketing specialist (who provided his services to WIN on a pro bono basis), we were able to gather valuable information from our members about their goals for membership in WIN and attendance at WIN conferences; and to develop marketing materials to reflect WIN’s mission. Next steps are to work with the appropriate WIN committees to improve member services, recruit members, and market the value of WIN. The Board of Governors will report more on our activities at the Membership Assembly at the conference in April!

Please remember to mark your calendar for the WIN conference abstract submission deadline, October 16, 2017 and the award nominations deadline, November 15, 2017. In addition, when asked or in conjunction with conference notices, consider volunteering for one of the many ways you can support conference activities including serving as a session moderator or a poster judge. I look forward to a productive fall as we gear up for our 51st conference and look forward to seeing you in beautiful Spokane, Washington.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me at winters@montana.edu with any questions or suggestions.
