BIO:
Dr. Angela Chia-Chen Chen currently resides in Phoenix, AZ. She was born and grow up in Taiwan. After she graduated from National Taiwan University, she worked as a psychiatric nurse at the National Taiwan University Medical Center. Dr. Chen then obtained her MS and PhD degrees from University of Washington School of Nursing in Seattle. As a Doctorally prepared scholar and a board certified Psychiatric/Mental Health nurse practitioner, Dr. Chen has enjoyed a wealth of opportunities and experiences as a researcher, educator, clinician and leader. She is currently a tenured Associate Professor at Arizona State University (ASU) College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She is also a visiting professor at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Center for AIDS Prevention Studies.
Dr. Chen has received numerous awards, such as Faculty Mentor Award, Student Mentor Award, Research Dissemination Award, and Outstanding Researcher Award to acknowledge her contribution to education and research. She has also been nominated by the Dean at ASU to participate in leadership trainings. Dr. Chen has named as Nurses Charitable Trust Scholar and Gloria Smith Scholar due to her research projects funded by the American Nurses Foundation in 2005.
Dr. Chen’s program of research addresses health disparities among vulnerable and underserved populations, including ethnic minority populations, immigrants, and refugees to promote their behavioral and mental well-being. She has served as PI, Co-I, and consultant on federally/externally funded research projects. Dr. Chen is widely published and has presented her work to numerous audiences locally, nationally and internationally. She also serves as a reviewer for federal/external grant organizations and transdisciplinary journals and an editorial board member for two peer-reviewed journals.
