Leadership in Clinical Practice Award

BACKGROUND

The WIN Leadership in Clinical Practice Award was established in 2026 and honors a WIN member who exemplifies a commitment to clinical practice in the western United States.


ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility for the WIN Leadership in Clinical Practice Award includes:

  • Current member of WIN;
  • PhD or DNP with experience leading clinical practice in a healthcare agency or academic institution;
  • Five-year+ track record of leadership involvement and mentoring responsibility with evidence-based practice (EBP) or research activities leading to publications and presentations with clinical nurses on a national level;
  • Letters of support from a nominator and mentee.

  

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

Nominations for the WIN Leadership in Clinical Practice Award shall provide evidence that the candidate demonstrates the following:

  • Employed and a current member of WIN;
  • Leads nurses who work in the clinical setting, specifically towards the advancement of research or EBP;
  • Functions as a leader and role model for the translation of research to the bedside, as well as contributing to generalizable nursing knowledge;
  • Mentors nurses in the clinical areas of research or EBP;
  • Presents posters and podiums nationally and specifically at WIN;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to clinical practice and leadership at their organization. For example, implementing an intervention with a clinical team that improves care, reduces cost, or fills a gap in the research.

The nominator and mentee will each compose a recommendation letter of 250-300 words in length, which describes the nominee's commitment to nursing research and EBP and describes:

  • How long and in what capacity the individual has known the nominee;
  • How the nominee directly or indirectly advances WIN's mission/vision through practice. This may include service on advisory boards, local improvement teams, international committees, or WIN committees;
  • An example of how the nominee demonstrates a commitment to the development and implementation of clinical research or EBP projects.

  

SELECTION PROCESS

The WIN Research Committee will select the WIN Leadership in Clinical Practice Award recipient in collaboration with WIN's Governor Representative of Nursing Practice.


PRESENTATION OF AWARD

The WIN Leadership in Clinical Practice Award will be presented at the annual WIN Conference Awards Lunch.


CONFERENCE EXPENSES

WIN is not able to defray registration fees or reimburse travel expenses for the award recipient, nominator, or mentee.
 

DEADLINE

The completed online nomination form, the letter from the nominator, and the letter from the mentee must be received in the WIN office no later than November 1.
