Job Summary

The University of Portland located in Portland, Oregon, USA invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing & Health Innovations to begin August 15, 2024. Candidates in all areas of expertise are welcome to apply.

The School of Nursing & Health Innovations (SONHI) values a diversity of backgrounds and intellectual perspectives that create an environment of rich student mentoring within a community of scholars. The undergraduate and doctoral programs are built on the interconnectedness of individual social needs, clinical care, and community conditions.  Successful candidates will have a high level of enthusiasm and engagement in innovative and inclusive pedagogy. The SONHI is ideally suited for candidates with a focus on cultivating human learning capacity and who are dedicated to addressing social determinants of health. The SONHI implements state of the art simulation in ambulatory, acute, and telemedicine facilities.

 

Tenure-track faculty are responsible for maintaining teaching obligations, participation in student advising, service on committees in the school as well as the greater University, public relations roles, involvement in professional associations, and public service. Professional goals for tenure-track faculty include upholding the tripartite role of teaching, scholarship, and service within the University and to the nursing community. All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a habit of scholarship, which requires dissemination in various venues to the nursing profession.

Core Duties

All SONHI faculty teach across programs, as well as assist students in achievement of course objectives, guide student interaction in course-related work groups, grade coursework and provide feedback. SONHI faculty serve as academic advisors to SONHI students, working with assigned students to support their progress through the program of study. All tenure-track faculty are expected to develop an active program of scholarship and collaborate with colleagues in service to the SONHI and UP.

Grounded in social justice, all SONHI faculty are expected to contribute to and be fully committed to meeting our school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, in order to help create and sustain an anti-racist culture of equity and inclusivity and improve the recruitment, retention, and support of students, faculty, and staff with marginalized identities.

Undergraduate baccalaureate generalist nurse faculty job responsibilities include teaching in a concept-based nursing curriculum across the lifespan and care continuum.  Graduate faculty job responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching in the doctorate of nursing practice programs. Tenure-track faculty typically teach 9 credits per semester.

Education & Experience

  • Required: Doctoral degree in nursing or health-related field (Ph.D., D.N.P., Ed.D.). Candidates who have not earned a doctoral degree prior to August 2024 would be considered for a position but would begin as a non-tenure track instructor.
  • Preferred: One to three years of related practical/professional experience.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Active unencumbered license as an Oregon RN or eligible for licensure in Oregon.
  • Preferred: If a DNP, national certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
