The Undergraduate Associate Dean for Academics & Evaluation serves as a chief assistant to the  Dean in the administration of the School of Nursing (SON) which may include, but is not limited to academic policies, faculty recruitment and development, program development, program review, student advisement, indirect supervision of teaching, administers and advances the instructional programs, curricula, and provides for an environment which fosters positive attitudes, recognition, creativity, respect for diversity, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. The Associate Dean provides administrative leadership for institutional assessment and quality improvement initiatives in the SON.

 

The Graduate Associate Dean for Academics and Evaluation serves as a chief assistant to the Dean in the administration of the School of Nursing (SON) which may include, but is not limited to academic policies, faculty recruitment and development, program development, program review, student advisement, indirect supervision of teaching, administers and advances the instructional programs, curricula, and provides for an environment which fosters positive attitudes, recognition, creativity, respect for diversity, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. This role provides administrative leadership for institutional assessment and quality improvement initiatives in the SON. 

 

These positions report directly to the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences who is the chief nursing administrator for nursing.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Responsible for oversight and coordination of all undergraduate or graduate educational programs and activities that support student recruitment, education, and retention in the SON.
  2. Support faculty planning for the development of contemporary new degree programs and evolving existing degree programs.
  3. Oversee the compliance of the School of Nursing with all regulatory requirements (e.g. Alabama Board of Nursing (ABON), Alabama Commission on Higher Education, as well as lead the SON is all accreditation evaluation and site visits.
  4. Oversee the management of the Nursing Resource Center and collaborate to expand the vision for the resources that are provided.
  5. Create and facilitate alignment/ partnerships with colleges, health systems, and other groups to formulate and implement innovative learning models.
  6. Participate in hiring, career development, and evaluation of qualified and diverse SON staff and faculty.
  7. Assesses clinical facility placement needs and evaluates the quality of clinical facilities in accordance with accreditation and ABON rules and regulations.
  8. Maintains personal academic faculty obligations in teaching, service, and research in accordance with area of expertise.
  9. Maintains currency of knowledge in nursing education by attending state and national meetings of nursing educators and administrators.
  10. In partnership with the dean, organizes, plans, and implements nursing ceremonies such as Pinning and Recognition Ceremony, Scholarships and Awards, and White Coat Ceremony to name a few.
  11. Monitors undergraduate nursing students and faculty surveys and provides recommendations to the dean as needed.
  12. Effectively represents the dean in her absence at internal and external events and with other stakeholders.
  13. Assists the dean in planning teaching assignments, committee assignments, and other needs as necessary.
  14. Assists in the implementation of the university strategic plan.
  15. Provides leadership and direction for Undergraduate Program Coordinators across all programs on an ongoing basis.
  16. Assist the dean with fundraising events, grant writing for major projects and equipment.
  17. Assists School and College officials in resolving faculty and student issues related to nursing programs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Associate/Full Professor in a School of Nursing.
  • Depending on clinical/academic qualifications, associate deans may hold faculty rank and tenure. 12-month full-time position.
  • Teaching responsibilities is half of a full-time tenured/tenure track faculty member. 
  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing or related field, Master of Science in Nursing degree from a regionally accredited institution & unencumbered current RN license. 
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in higher education and academic nursing administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of research or creative activities and leadership.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience leading curriculum changes, accreditation, quality improvement and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in managing groups of personnel including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and counseling faculty and staff.
  • Experience with Advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APRN) programs – for Graduate Associate Dean
